The State Key Laboratory of Metamaterial Electromagnetic Modulation Technology

The State Key Laboratory of Metamaterial Electromagnetic Modulation Technology is China’s first state key laboratory of metamaterial technology and is one of the 177 company-run state key laboratories (“state key” denotes funded or supported by the Chinese government). Approved by the Ministry of Science and Technology, the laboratory was created in 2011 and was approved to meet quality acceptance requirements in November 2015.

The laboratory has three major research focuses: metamaterials with special electromagnetic properties, core technologies of metamaterial eletromagnetic modulation, and devices that use metamaterial space modulation technology. It consists of three research facilities (one for each research focus) and an office for commercialization. The laboratory is led by Liu Ruopeng, president of Kuang-Chi, and the laboratory's academic board is led by Zhou Shaoxiong, chief engineer of Advanced Technology & Materials Co.

Kuang-Chi has also built or is in the process of building more than 10 province and city-level laboratories, including the Guangdong Provincial Key Laboratory of Metamaterial Microwave RF, Guangdong Provincial Engineering Laboratory of Millimeter Wave Metamaterials, Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Ultra High Refractive Index Structural Material, Shenzhen Key Laboratory of Artificial Substance Microstructures Development, Shenzhen Engineering Laboratory of Meta-RF Technology, Shenzhen Engineering Laboratory of Composite Intelligent Metamaterials, among others.
